METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a warm and sticky glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Then we move the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is already smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!
